Katherine Garratt was born in Toronto and received her Honours BFA in Visual Art at York University. She has exhibited her acrylic paintings in solo and group exhibitions in Toronto, Key West, Florida, Vancouver, White Rock, and Surrey. In 2016, Katherine's solo exhibition Mythos was exhibited at Artemis Gallery in Deep Cove, North Vancouver. These paintings were inspired by world mythology. She has exhibited in group shows at The Surrey Art Gallery, The Turnbull Gallery, The Federation Gallery and The White Rock Community Centre. In 2008, she published The Ascension of Inanna: Journey to theUnderworld, her written and illustrated version of the Sumerian myth The Descent of Inanna.
The Golden Age is her new acrylic painting series. These paintings are inspired by the world-wide myth of Paradise. Many cultures describe a mythological land where human beings are immortal and live peacefully with nature. Her paintings attempt to illustrate a mutualistic relationship between human life and nature rather than a competitive one. Her imagery depicts metamorphic changes between humans, birds, animals, and plants. For example, her painting The Whispering Wolf portrays a non-threatening relationship between a wolf and two human beings whose bodies have mutated into water and plant life. Her painting The Swan's Embrace portrays two human figures merging with a swan while their lower bodies have metamorphosed into roots of a tree. Katherine is a full-time visual artist and poet living and working in White Rock, BC.
